2D Conjugated Polymers from Stable Free Radical Building Blocks

Abstract

The goal of this project is to develop 2D organic polymers with unique optoelectronic and magnetic properties resulting from 2D electron confinement of unpaired electrons. Achieving this goal was envisaged through pursuing four interrelated objectives: synthesis of reactive mutlidentate monomers; establishing 2D polymerization under dynamic equilibrium conditions and structural characterization of the resulting layered materials; preparation of individual 2D polymer sheets by exfoliation of the bulk materials and surface templated synthesis; and characterization of electrical and magnetic properties of 2D polymers.
