DEMON Data Transmission Link-Type 2

Abstract

Modifications were made in the DEMON (DElay MOdulated Noise) data transmission link in order to improve its signal-to-noise characteristics and thereby increase the maximum range and security of the system without degrading the expected performance in the presence of propagation noise. A link receiver was developed which has a 13-dbimprovement in signal-to-noise ratio over that of the original receiver, along with a simplified and more stable decoder. This equipment, with power supply, has been packaged in two standard A TR racks to facilitate flight test. A traveling-wave-tube final amplifier has been used in the transmitter so that a power output of 1.0 watt is obtained.
