New Models for a New Disease: Simulating the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (IDA Research Summary)
Abstract
This IDA Research Summary describes models that IDA has developed and updated to help decision-makers plan, evaluate, and respond to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). IDAs contagious disease modeling capabilities consist of both stochastic and deterministic models. These models were updated using early data from the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak to simulate the transmission of the virus. The resulting COVID-19 models help researchers assess various outbreak intervention and response measures. In addition, the models allow IDA researchers to investigate potential disease characteristics that may play a critical role in the transmission dynamics of COVID-19, providing a better understanding of the unique challenges posed by this novel disease.
