Review of Cornea Laser-Induced Damage Thresholds from Exposure to UV and IR Wavelengths

Abstract

This report reviews the published literature on corneal damage thresholds for femtosecond pulse durations up to 1 millisecond exposure durations at ultraviolet wavelengths (UV; 100 - 400 nm) and a subset of infrared wavelengths (IR; 800 - 10,600 nm) which were not included in a previous report. It also provides an overview of the absorption properties of the cornea and laser damage mechanisms identified in the available studies in those wavelength ranges. The cornea laser damage thresholds are tabulated for the readers convenience. This review identifies exposure regimes where data is scarce or lacking
