Suprathreshold Retinal Lesions Induced by a Continuous-Wave 1070 nm Laser

Abstract

Threshold and suprathreshold effects of retinal exposure to a 1070 nm wavelength continuous-wave laser were investigated using a Yucatan mini-pig model. The exposure duration was 100 ms. The ED50 for inducing a retinal injury was 29.9 mJ total intraocular energy (TIE). Suprathreshold exposures up to 1 J TIE did not produce hemorrhagic lesions. However, the lesion size did correspond to the laser dose.
