A Comprehensive Study of Forebody Vortex Interactions with Control Surfaces of Generic Axisymmetric Configurations
Abstract
Flight vehicles are expected to perform high alpha maneuvers to achieve tactical advantages. At high angles of attack: 1. Slender bodies at high AoA results in large side forces and yawing moments (Phantom Yaw) 2. Control surfaces are relatively less effective - in the body wake 3. At certain conditions side forces switch sign result in oscillatory rolling motion a serious consequences to mission and safety.
