Capturing and Disseminating Tacit Recruiting Knowledge Via Short Just-in-Time Videos

Abstract

Knowledge management (KM) and engineering are required for organization knowledge to flow rapidly, reliably and energetically. The OPNAV N1 organization remains in the beginning stages of establishing a KM program. This project leverages results of research focused on improving KM in the Naval Recruiting Command through a novel approach for capturing, organizing and using timely tacit knowledge. Specifically, rich, experience-based, tacit knowledge is captured via short, searchable, YouTube style videos that can be viewed just-in-time by line recruiters in the field. The Recruiting Command continues to serve as a focus, but the approach can be applied to nearly every Navy command.
