MURI: Scan: Socio-Cultural Attitudinal Networks

Abstract

The major goals of this project are to: i) Understand the relationship between verbal and non-verbal methods of intra-group communication (e.g., via facial expressions, gestures, speech patterns) and dominance-deference, like-dislike, trust-distrust relationships between individuals within a group in a diverse cross-cultural setting. ii) Develop methods to predict, from a given audio-video recording of group interaction, which pairs of people are dominant/deferential, like/dislike each other, trust/distrust each other. iii) Develop methods to predict, from a given audio-video recording, who is being deceptive and when.
