Towards Uncooled Thermal Imaging Focal Plane Devices with NETD near 1mK

Abstract

The major goals of the program, slightly modified from the text used in the original proposal, are:1) Develop a theory of optomechanical infrared detection in the presence of thermomechanical noise including the frequency, temperature, and Q dependence of that noise.2) Develop a theory of operation and performance for near-1mK thermal detectors. This will include an analysis of mechanics, noise, laser readout, and bimorph transduction.3) Construct and demonstrate high sensitivity single pixels that will have an uncooled NETD near 1mK for light in the long-wave infrared.
