Allied Special Operations Forces Command: Key to Nato's 360-Degree Multi-Domain Operations Approach with Cyber and Space
Abstract
Allied Special Operations Forces (A-SOF) are crucial in addressing both NATO's strategic goal of evolving modern warfare from Joint Operations to a 360-degree Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) approach and the required integration of cyber and space capabilities into this evolutionary process. The allied countries laid the political-strategic course for this evolutionary MDO transformation with the "NATO 2022 Strategic Concept," but there is a lack of executive options at the strategic-operational level. The thesis created a semantic database through interviews with experts and applied hybrid analysis methods, including binary and semantic differential distribution analyses and semantic network analysis. These methods tested four hypotheses to address the research question: How can A-SOF enhance interoperability between A-SOF, cyber, and space? The testing of the hypotheses intended to identify options for action to address the research question practically. The analyses affirmed that A-SOF is uniquely qualified, possessing essential structures, generating knowledge through organic training facility, and improving interoperability by liaison elements. The thesis proposes three key recommendations: employ a tailored strategy, utilize A-SOF's organic training facility, and leverage liaison elements for interoperability. The recommendations aim to enhance interoperability between A-SOF, cyber, and space, aligning with NATOs 360-degree MDO approach.
