Depot Level Repairable (DLR) 5G and 5S Advice Code Cost Analysis
Abstract
The DOD uses Depot Level Repairables (DLRs) to fix and maintain a variety of weapon systems. These DLRs are among the most closely managed and scrutinized items in the supply system for the U.S. Navy, tracked by operational Commanders, supply commands, manufacturers, maintainers, and others. While each of these entities track certain metrics it is difficult to visualize the entire process flow to identify costs and process improvement opportunities, and to assess the process on various management metrics. This capstone project focuses on the differences between 5G and 5S Advice Code DLRs. The project identified the entire DLR management process, contextualized every cost and who pays the cost, tradeoffs, and benefits at each step for the varying parties. This project lays the foundation for further research by describing the full picture of DLR management in order to increase effectiveness, readiness, and cost to better manage DLRs and service Navy customers.
