Modeling of Low Loss IR Transmitting Fibers, Sources, and Detectors

Abstract

We summarize activities that we carried out during the grant period in collaboration with scientists at the Naval Research Laboratory. Our joint research focused on three activities. The first was the study of propagation in optical fibers and focused on negative curvature fibers and supercontinuum generation. The second focus was the study of moth-eye structures and focused on transmission through glass surfaces. The third was the study of nonlinearity in photodetectors and focused on nonlinear distortion and the impact of phase noise.
