Component Error Representation of Sensor Target Location Errors

Abstract

Traditionally, the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Analysis Center supplied the target location error (TLE) for various sensors to the modeling and simulation (M and S) community as a single 50 circular error probability (CEP50) value as a function of range. The CEP50 is not an ideal metric. Therefore, the models have been expanded so that estimations for downrange, cross-range, and vertical TLEs for various sensors can now be supplied for the following: Ground Moving Target Indication and synthetic aperture radar, Laser Rangefinders and electro-optical/infrared sensors, as well as signals intelligence systems. By including these additional parameters, the M and S community will be able to more accurately represent the TLE of a sensor, and they will be able to expand their efforts to play scenarios that they were not previously able to investigate.
