The Information Warfighter Exercise Wargame: Rulebook (Player's Guide)

Abstract

This document provides details and documentation related to a series of RAND projects: MCIOC Information Warfighter Exercise Wargame Support from fiscal year (FY) 2020, MCIOC Information Warfighter Exercise Wargame Support: Continuation from FY 2021, and Expanding Options for the Information Warfighter Exercise in FY 2202. The goals of these projects included supporting the Marine Corps Information Operations Center (MCIOC) in the development of a wargame component for the Information Warfighter Exercises(IWXs) and expanding on the rules and guidance for the game once developed. This document begins from the baseline of the IWX Wargame rules originally published in 2021,41folds in the collection of optional rules captured in Supplement 1 to the IWX Wargame, and updates the rules to correspond to the current U.S. Marine Corps lexicon for information and the most recent evolution of the rules themselves. Numerous handouts and aids for playing the game, as well as a Players Guide, are available atwww.rand.org/t/TLA495-5.This rulebook should be of interest to those who wish to conduct (or participate in the administration of) an IWX Wargame at MCIOC. The rulebook should also be of interest to anyone wishing to conduct this wargame as part of a different training exercise series or anyone wishing to design a wargame related to operations in the information environment.
