Probing Mechanisms of Biological-Material Interaction; Towards Realizing Biomimetic Materials by Understanding Molecular-Level Interactions

Abstract

We have published reviews (Limo et al., Chem Rev 2018 and Thota and Perry, Nanotech 2017) describing the state of research in both understanding the nature of abiotic-biotic interactions and applications of the same. Goal 1: PhD theses of Zayd Westcott (in full- note most research reported in prior granting period; only that relevant to the reporting period is detailed below though thesis is included it was written up and submitted in the granting period), Veeru Thota (in full- note most research reported in prior granting period; only that relevant to the reporting period is detailed below though thesis is included as it was written up and submitted in the granting period) and Daniel Oliver (part Goal 1 and part Goal 3). We have studied a range of materials as per our original proposal. We present results for silica (papers and reports), ZnO (paper and reports), titania (paper and reports) and gold (report).
