Ironcastle- Interpretation and Recognition of Objects Using Novel Coupled Attitude and Shape Techniques for Lightcurve Evaluation

Abstract

In this contract, attitude inversion based on light curves is performed. The results have been highly successful, as outlined in the technical portion of the report. It presents the first method to determine an attitude from a short light curve alone, when the albedo-shape and the observation geometry is known. The method does not need any initial guess, it fully explores all ambiguities of the problem, and it does not require a simple attitude motion, such as a constant spinner, but can determine any attitude motion, including tumbling, spinning, and stable.
