Range Safety 101

Abstract

A review of public law, Department of Defense and Air Force instructions, and Range Commanders Council standards is included to describe how test and evaluation range safety principles are applied at Edwards AFB. Range containment strategies, particularly regarding flight termination systems are described. Finally, a brief comparison between the criteria to operate under an FAA experimental certificate and those required to operate on a DoD range provides context valuable to organizations conducting test operations.
