MxD Project 21 06 01: Scheduling for Manufacturing Applications in Real Time (SMART)
Abstract
The SMART project developed and demonstrated an optimization based online scheduling framework at the shop floors of Triangle Package Machinery and the ICAMS lab of Auburn University. In both cases online scheduling has successfully been applied to the shop floor in closed-loop operation. Furthermore, the project developed an order sequencing tool for a telehandler assembly line of JLG. Although this solution could not be demonstrated in an online operation on the shop floor it was investigated with a discrete event simulation of the shop floor. The simulation indicated a productivity increase of more than 12 that was achieved through the prioritization of orders based on their material availability.
