Free Fall Mine Model Test Program.

Abstract

The report presents the results of a study of the water-entry forces experienced by a proposed unretarded aircraft-dropped mine and the resulting structural responses. Experiments were carried out with an instrumented subscale model. The experimental results were compared to data from full-scale tests making use of different scaling laws. A structural response computer program, NASTRAN, capable of defining vehicle response and stresses as completely as desired, was also used to correlate the model and prototype data. The result of the study is the presentation of applicable scaling laws and techniques which allow for prototype designs to be based on model tests or computer studies. (Author)
