On Numerical Solutions of Equations of Hyperbolic-Elliptic Type,

Abstract

The mixed hyperbolic-elliptic Tricomi equation is solved approximately by first transforming the equation to a positive first order system and then discretizing the system by the finite element method. An experimental O(h sup 2) (L sub 2)-rate of convergence is obtained. The authors compare the results with results obtained for this problem by finite difference methods. (Author)
