The Case of Allergy to Cholera Vaccine,

Abstract

In the spring of 1966 during the mass immunization of the population with cholera vaccine reactions were observed in medical workers who performed prophylactic inoculations. The inoculations were performed by 15 nurses in inoculation offices and stations. Allergic reactions were observed in 12 of them. Reactions appeared in 6-10 days of work with the preparation, and continued during the entire period of immunization and disappeared 3-7 days after completion of the work. Probable ports of entry of sensitization in the given observations could be the skin, the eye mucosae and the respiratory tracts, where the vaccine could enter while diluting and when freeing the syringe of air bubbles. The observation data are of definite interest for practical workers of the inoculation offices, and also for persons connected with conducting mass inoculations.
