Effect of Heat Treatment on Properties of Aluminum and Its Alloys Reinforced with Continuous Steel Fibers,

Abstract

A study was made of the effect that tempering temperature has on plastic properties and specific strength for composite specimens made of Al and its alloys with steel fiber, prepared by welding, explosion, and subsequent cold drawing. It is shown that the strength of the reinforced material rises somewhat after heatings at 100-150C compared with the strength obtained after welding and rolling. Heating of reinforced material at more elevated temperatures (200C and higher) leads to a reduction in its strength owing to softening of the maxtrix metal and fibers.
