Development of Bolocon Layers.

Abstract

A literature investigation and technical effort were made to improve the Bolocon, an all-electronic far IR image converter using velocity selector type electron optics and a bolometric target. The major emphasis was placed on development of a reproducible method of making and mounting bolometric layers of 1 1/4 in. useful diameter, 0.1 micrometers thickness, and uniformity variation within 0.1% to 1.0%. Secondarily, improvements were made in the Bolocon Demountable Test System, including the electron optics. (Modified author abstract)
