An Evaluation of the Harbors of Kaohsiung and Chilung (Keelung), Taiwan as Typhoon Havens,

Abstract

The study is an evaluation of Kaohsiung and Chilung harbors as typhoon 'havens.' Characteristics of the harbors discussed include moorings, facilities available, wind and wave action, storm surge and the topographical effects on winds prior to and during the passage of tropical cyclones. Problems to be considered if remaining in port and possible evasion procedures for ships sailing from the ports are examined. (Modified author abstract)
