The Dalles Dam, Columbia River, Oregon and Washington: Hydraulic Model Investigations.

Abstract

Two hydraulic models were used during the studies described in this report. The most desirable layout for the principal structures, minimum excavation requirements, the adequacy of cofferdam and diversion plans, and probable methods of project operations for initial and ultimate stages of development were investigated in a 1:80-scale general model. Data derived from the general model were used in operation of a 1:25-scale section model in which entrance losses within a typical powerhouse intake were evaluated for different approach flow directions, pier nose shapes, and trash rack designs.
