Spillway and Fish-Passage Facilities, Green Peter Reservoir, Middle Santiam River, Oregon. Hydraulic Model Investigation.

Abstract

Model investigations for the Green Peter Project were concerned with performance of the spillway, stilling basin, excavated tailrace, and facilities for fish. A 1:50-scale model reproduced 1540 ft of approach channel, principal elements of the project, and 1620 ft of downstream channel. Satisfactory flow conditions over the spillway were obtained with the pier and abutment noses one ft upstream from the alignment of the nonoverflow section, six-in.-wide deflectors on the center pier, and two-ft-wide overhanging tops on the upstream portion of the chute walls. Alignment of the regulating outlets, with intakes in the abutments and exits in the spillway chute, was satisfactory. The right training wall was revised, the left bank was realigned, and the height of the end sill was increased from 13.0 to 20.0 ft to meet adopted criteria for the stilling basin.
