High Velocity Channel, South Fork Coeur D'Alene River at Wallace, Idaho.

Abstract

The proposed design of the paved high-velocity channel was satisfactory and adequate except at the upstream ends of the existing channel walls, where the south wall and a section of the north bank must be increased in height. Because the existing structures are adequate, the proposed modifications to the channel under the Bank Street arch bridge and the north wall upstream from the bridge are not necessary. If the end of the south wall were raised, the upstream end of the paved channel, which was designed for a discharge of 5325 cfs, would have a capacity of 5900 cfs. The size and extent of riprap proposed for protection at the downstream end of the channel can be reduced. The proposed Corps of Engineers confluence for Placer Creek was satisfactory for all design conditions.
