Studies of Separated Flows.

Abstract

The report describes turbulent boundary layers in strong interaction with inviscid flows around transonic airfoils. These flows can be analyzed by the procedures developed for laminar problems, provided specific families of solutions are used to describe the boundary layer profiles in different regions, such as (a) the region upstream of the strong interaction, (b) the region between the beginning of the strong interaction and the point of reattachment, (c) the region downstream of the point of reattachment, and (d) the wake region. The main feature of the chosen solutions resides in their ability to introduce Reynolds number dependent boundary layer responses, as indicated in the available experiments.
