The Interrelation between Granulomatosis and Tuberculin Allergy,

Abstract

Rats and guinea pigs were sensitized intraperitoneally with BCG, then were tested intradermally with PPD. After two months tuberculin shock was reproduced in part of the guinea pigs by the intraperitoneal introduction of PPD. In the rats the first positive tuberculin skin reactions were detected on the 2nd day, and the first granulomas - on the 4th day. In the guinea pigs the first granulomas were detected on the 7th day, and positive tuberculin reactions - on the 9th day. The asynchronous development of the allergy and granulomatosis, and the absence of the cytotoxic action of PPD on the granuloma cells during tuberculin shock indicate that tuberculin allergy and granulomatosis are independent processes caused by different antigens of mycobacteria.
