Preparation and Characterization of Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices.

Abstract

The objectives of the research was to prepare magnetic and superconducting materials with unusual properties which will be useful in device applications, and to investigate the properties of these materials. Both experimental and theoretical studies were carried out. Magnetic properties of the rare earth compounds were investigated, and several unusual phenomena were found. Double magnetic phase transitions were observed and studied in cesium nickel trichloride and several other similar crystals. The superconducting properties of the fluoroxy tungsten bronzes were investigated, and a number of new results were obtained. The most recent objectives were to develop low critical current materials useful in new kinds of Josephson devices. (Modified author abstract)
