Surface Reflection: Uniform Dielectric Coatings,

Abstract

A common strategy for optical impedance matching at an interface is to use a uniform dielectric coating, usually a quarter wavelength in thickness. Such an interface is easy to analyze and the author does so here in order to compare with other strategies. This report continues the report of March 25, 1974: Distributed Reflection of Light. The present report introduces some of the notation and describes the basic impedance matching results to which the results will be compared in subsequent reports. (Modified author absract)
