Convergence of Pade Approximants to the Negative Exponential on Unbounded Sets.

Abstract

The properties of best rational approximations to e sup(-x) on the interval 0 < or = x < infinity have important applications to numerical techniques for solving certain heat-conduction problems. In this paper, the rational functions Rm,n(z) known as Pade approximants to e sup (-z) are investigated from the point of view of error estimates and uniform convergence on 2-dimensional unbounded sets.
