Film Depositions of Multiple-Doped Phosphors: Infrared Imaging Devices.

Abstract

The Ir-stimulability of ZnS based phosphors which respond to 10.6 micrometers radiation has been studied. The stimulability of ZnS:Cu,Al phosphors was optimized with regard to dopant concentrations, preparation techniques, and excitation wavelengths. An infrared-to-visible image converter using this phosphor was built, but tests so far have been unsuccessful in producing an image. Numerous other phosphors were prepared and tested for extended IR response. New methods were invented for non-intermittent operation of such image converters. Photoconductor-electroluminescent image converters which show good response at 1.06 micrometers have been fabricated. The PC component is sintered CdS-CdSe powder and the EL component is ZnS:Cu,Br powder. (Modified author abstract)
