A Plan for the Automation of the DE 1052 Class of Naval Surface Ships

Abstract

The report presents a plan for automation of the destroyer escort class of Naval surface ships. It presents the description of a microcomputer- based, overall, ship operation automation system which can be developed for the DE 1052 class. Use of such an overall automation system should permit a crew reduction on the order of 75-100 men from presently proposed manning schedules while maintaining or even increasing the ship's fighting ability and its capability of responding to any emergency.
