Laser Backscatter Density System.

Abstract

An instrument has been designed and fabricated to measure total atmospheric density in the thermosphere over the altitude range of 90 to 160 km. The payload is to be mounted on an Aerobee 150. The measurement technique involves Rayleigh backscatter of a pulsed laser operating at a wavelength of about 460 nanometers.
