Near Field Small Earthquake Strong Motion Studies

Abstract

The objective of the Joint Experiment on Earthquake Source Spectra is to improve our ability to distinguish between the explosive and tectonic energy releases in the magnitude range 3 = or < M = or < 5. Recording the near-field strong ground motion will help in the more accurate determinations of the earthquake source time function and thus will improve the reliability of the near- and far-field spectra which are still the basic tools in detection work.
