The Ticks of Indonesia, Their Distribution and Biology.

Abstract

A bibliography of 1,450 references has been compiled concerning ticks and tick-borne diseases of Asia, Australia, and Pacific Islands, and an index catalogue of geographical distribution of ticks according to countries has been prepared on the basis of 550 of these references. As a result of the field tick survey, approximately 5,000 individual collections of ticks were made in Malaysia, and 677 collections were made in Indonesia. Field studies on distribution, ecology, host relationships, and seasonal abundance of certain Malaysian ticks were completed. The larval stage of eight species of Malaysian and 19 species of Indonesian ticks has been reared in the laboratory. Epidemiological relationships of the ticks of Malaysia and Indonesia are discussed briefly. A Keysort system has been designed for recording, retrieving, and analyzing the data of collections of ticks. (Author)
