A Proposed Solution to the Arab-Israeli Conflict.
Abstract
The Middle East is a highly explosive area that poses an increasingly serious danger to world peace. While the region is criss-crossed with internecine strife, the most immediate cause of war is the Arab-Israeli dispute. Since 1948 these two contestants have fought four major wars, each at a heightened level of intensity and sophistication. An analysis of the needs of the peoples directly involved as well as that of the United States clearly indicates the urgency for a lasting peace. The purpose of this study was to develop a basis for resolution of the conflict that would serve as a basis for permanent tranquility rather than merely another period of armed truce. The three crucial issues were identified as the disposition of Jerusalem, satisfying the nationalist aspirations of the Palestinian Arabs, and defensible boundaries for Israel.
