Polygalacturonase in Bean Abscission Zone Explants.

Abstract

Polygalacturonase, an enzyme reported to be involved in the abscission of citrus leaf explants, was studied to see whether it had a similar role in the abscission of bean leaf explants or not. Polygalacturonase activity decreased during abscission of bean leaf explants and was localized in the distal portion of the explant. It does not appear to be involved in abscission of bean leaves. Ethylene, a plant hormone which enhances the abscission process, has no effect on polygalacturonase activity. (Author)
