Seismic Effect of Underground Nuclear Explosions,

Abstract

The USSR translation presents formulas used for determining the maximal seismic oscillation acceleration and velocity, and yield quite good approximation to actual measurements under full scale nuclear explosion conditions. It also estimates the expected deformation of structures from seismic oscillations. The seismic oscillation intensity in the nuclear explosion case is no higher than for explosions of conventional chemical explosives of the same power.
