Preliminary Assessment of Relative Toxicity of Candidate Louse Toxicant OMS-869 O,O-Dimethyl-O-(4-Cyanophenyl)-Phosphorothioate Evaluation of Animal Exposure Data and Recommendation Concerning a Sleeve Test Program.

Abstract

Preliminary assessment of the relative toxicity of a proposed louse toxicant O,O-dimethyl-O-(4-cyanophenyl)-phosphorothioate, OMS-869, was conducted using laboratory animals. The technical grade compound did not produce primary irritation when applied to the intact or abraded skin of rabbits. Data obtained from 21 days of continuous application of either technical grade chemical or a one percent formulation in pyrax powder to intact and abraded rabbit skin, and skin sensitization studies in guinea pigs did not indicate a potential hazard under the proposed conditions of use.
