Proposal for the Development of a High-Power, Low-Frequency Underwater Acoustic Source.

Abstract

A program for the development of a high-power underwater acoustic source for use at infrasonic and low-audio frequencies is proposed. This source is in the form of a three-element line array, each of whose elements is a transducer of existing design, the USRD type J15-3. Unique features of this source are its small size, light weight, and its ability to operate with a minimum of peripheral equipment. The primary objectives of the program are construction and evaluation of one such array. Improvement of the performance of the individual array radiators is a secondary objective of the program.
