Biological Properties of the Cytoplasmic Fraction of Streptococcus of Group A. Report II. Delayed Type Increased Sensitivity to Cytoplasm of Streptococcus,
Abstract
Experiments were performed on guinea pigs. Cytoplasmic fraction of microbial cell of streptococcus, group A, in a complex with a complete Freund's adjuvant caused development of allergy of delayed type, reaching the maximum by the 28th day of sensitization. Although at that period there were revealed in the blood serum antibodies to cytoplasmic antigens, no concomitant signs of anaphylaxis could be found. In animals sensitized by cytoplasm of streptococcus type 1 there was seen a cross allergic reaction of delayed type to cytoplasmic antigens of streptococcus type 5, but not of type 12. In assessment of the state of allergy of delayed type by the results of skin tests and reaction of inhibition of macrophage migration only a relative correlation between the indices was revealed.
