Surface Properties, Surface Reactions and Epitaxial Growth.

Abstract

Studies of epitaxial systems were continued with the deposition of silicon on the beryllium (0001) surface and of silicon on the molybdenum (001) surface. The atomic arrangements on clean silver (0001) and clean molybdenum (001) surfaces were unveiled. The methods for determination of the vibration amplitudes of surface atoms were successfully tested with a computer experiment and then applied to the clean (001) surface of silicon. The structure of one monolayer of selenium on silver (001) and that of a monolayer of silicon on molybdenum (001) were determined. The structures of overlayers of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon monoxide on the molybdenum (001) surface are presently being studied. (Modified author abstract)
