Analytical and Experimental Investigation of Backblast Overpressures and Impulse Noise.

Abstract

This report investigates the characteristics of recoilless weapons and the dynamic effects of back blast, i.e. the spatial distribution of peak pressures and noise levels. Analytical and experimental studies relating thereto indicate design parameters of nozzle dissipative devices to control back blast wave structure. Detailed studies of the diaphragm failure modes, the assessment of secondary mass ejection concepts for controlling gun performance, recoillessness, and back blast overpressure effects are also included.
