Evaluation of Nd:YVO4 and Ho:Er:Tm:YVO4 as Pulse Pumped Q-Switched Lasers.

Abstract

Yttrium orthovanadate (YVO4) doped with rare earth ions was investigated for use as a pulse pumped Q-switched laser material. Two laser ions were studied in detail: neodymium (Nd(3+)) and holmium (Ho(3+)) sensitized with erbium and thulium. Measurements of the optical absorption and emission spectra, energy levels and stimulated emission cross-sections are reported. Crystal growth and laser performance are discussed.
