Output Investigation XM100 Electric Detonator

Abstract

The purpose of the investigation was to determine the effect upon output of the XM-100 electric detonator when the cup bottom profile, material and explosives density are altered. The effects of detonator confinement and explosive lead density were also investigated. The program was accomplished in three phases. The most surprising result of the entire program was the ability of both of these design configurations to initiate a PBXN-5 explosive lead across extremely large air gaps.
