Ionospheric Research Using Satellites the Total Electron Content of the Ionosphere over Legon for the Year 1972.

Abstract

Polarimeter measurements of the total Faraday rotation angle imposed by the ionosphere on the VHF signal radiated by ATS-3 have been used to determine the total columnar electron content of the ionosphere over Legon, Ghana, at ten minute intervals throughout the year 1972. The actual data are preceded by a brief discussion of the practical problem of determining the M value, correcting the polarimeter reading for satellite position, determining the polarimeter zero, and estimating the accuracy of the results.
