Material Properties of Grouts and of Tuffs from Selected Drill Holes.

Abstract

Rock core samples taken from exploratory drill holes at the Nevada Test Site and cast group samples were tested to determine their mechanical and physical properties. These material properties were used for initial nuclear test site selection and in more detailed site evaluation to insure that proper stemming and containment occurred. The majority of the tests were uniaxial-strain tests; some hydrostatic pressure and triaxial stress compression tests were conducted to furnish necessary moduli and failure criteria.
