Impact of the Person on Social Interchange: Results of Five Empirical Studies.
Abstract
This report relates the results of five empirical research studies on human relations impact to the effort's framework of key concepts--levels of abstraction, segmentation of behavior, types of cues, and objectifying the subjective. A total of 581 subjects were sampled to obtain a greater generalizability of findings. Studies One and Four sampled civilian adults; Study Two sampled U.S. Navy personnel; Study Three sampled U.S. Marine Corps personnel; and Study Five sampled college students. The research presented focuses on the development of techniques designed to measure the effectiveness of individuals engaged in interpersonal communication. This document describes research aimed at increased understanding of how sender and receiver roles influence human relations impact. A methodology that measures subjective aspects of communication and the results of study of observer perceptual consensus are also described.
